I always enjoy hearing stories about publishers who missed a big chance, gave a rotten rejection to a writer who went on to succeed. Many of us are familiar with JK Rowling’s rejections–12!–before someone finally saw Harry Potter as a worthwhile investment.
I followed this link from Shelf Awareness this morning to MentalFloss, where there is a great post about rejections, including a scan of a (stinging) letter written to Gertrude Stein.
So, take heart, keep working, and don’t give up on yourself!
Keep in mind: you’ll never get a rejection letter from The Troy Book Makers. We’ve already brought over 300 titles into print from new, emerging, and seasoned writers. We look forward to seeing even more during 2011 in our new (expanded) location at 291 River Street. See you soon!
